Sheboygan County Fair Demolition Derby, Happy Schnapps Combo, Styx

It’s Sheboygan County Fair time, and that means the clans gathering in Plymouth, Wisconsin this Labor Day weekend.

SheVegas suggests heading out pretty much anytime the next few days and freaking on people, getting some food, and having fun. Our fave band the Happy Schnapp’s Combo will be joined by a little group called Styx on Sunday, you should stop by.

Lear is IAC is Leaving Sheboygan so are Jobs

Just for the record, Muth Mirror Systems, aka KW Muth, did not close and leave Sheboygan. The facility on North Avenue was moved to one on NJ Ave. We also have a facility on High Tech Lane, which has been our “headquarters” since the ’90s. It’s unfortunate that Lear/IAC is closing in Sheboygan and Muth has no relationship with that company. Please correct your story.

Our apologies to Muth and the Muth family, there’s no excuse for being wrong. Muth Mirror Systems is pumping on all cylinders, having sold over 9 million Signal® Mirror units. Muth did sell their automotive interior business to Masland Industries, which was acquired by Lear in 1992, the same year the Muth Mirror Systems division was formed.

International Automotive Components Group, a $3 billion a year global auto-parts supplier, will start terminating your friends, neighbors and family in September, closing its plant in Sheboygan by Christmas, eliminating 167 jobs, it would be more but they got axed quietly through the years.

I A C has plants in 18 countries with more than 23,000 employees and global annual sales in excess of $3 billion. Leveraged buyout specialist Wilbur Ross is the evil money prick behind this love, having acquired the Sheboygan plant in 2007 with the rest of Lear Corp.

Is this the big news the Mayors working on, it’s great news somehow.

Might be time to cut the rubber liner and push Blue Harbor into the lake in protest. This is what happens when you anger the basketball gods.

Are we at the point that we should measure our empty commercial buildings in square miles instead of feet?

Just noticed this place has rail. no need for the $millions to connect Plymouth, Sheboygan county Businesses could come here.

How do you like the Global Economy?

Jobs, We Don’t Need No Stinking Jobs!

I was just looking for the time of the Finance Committee meeting yesterday and my buddy Google starts telling me about some deal Governor Doyle is taking credit for that involves Livesey and Sheboygan. I poked on those big blue letters of his and Google has Verona Press editor Jim Ferolie tell me more:

“Gov. Jim Doyle made his first official visit to Verona in two years last week to attend the company’s groundbreaking, telling the roughly 70 people in attendance that he sees its decision to build a $30 million plant and bring 45 new jobs here as a good sign for the state of Wisconsin’s economy and a continuation of the state’s “leadership” in the biotechnology industry.”

Good for Verona, but what does this have to do with Sheboygan? Jim starts telling stories about SAFC Pharma, Governor Doyle, SAFC-Pharma, land owned by Livesey, and Tif districts. Great story Jim but, Sheboygan, I need to know about Sheboygan Jim.

Jim tells me about some mouthpiece named Tony Hozeny, and Tony Hozeny says: “Enterprise Development Zones are defined as “distressed” areas with such problems as high unemployment, low incomes, layoffs, populations declines, etc. While Verona matches none of those descriptions, it is within “an 11-county region.”

Wow Jim, you are packing in the information today, but I need to know about Sheboygan. I hear about $60,000 a year science jobs, curing cancer and eliminating heart disease, but nothing important until Jim drops the bomb: “SAFC reportedly had considered some foreign locations but hoped to build near its Madison facility. Still, Verona’s most serious competition wasn’t with Middleton, Madison or Fitchburg but with land SAFC already owns in Sheboygan, and that provided the impetus for TIF assistance, to “level the playing field,” as Murphy put it.”

After this I didn’t care about the man that almost domed Sheboygan, time for the meeting.

Read and I mean read Jim Ferolie’s articles at the Verona Press, interesting stuff, like the rest of this story, Tif Districts and our old buddy Livesey.

Alderman Jim Gischia was kind enough to add the following:

Mike,
I checked. The issue regarding Doyle and the potential expansion in “Sheboygan” was actually “Sheboygan Falls” and the Aldrich Chemical plant just south of town.
Sheboygan is sometimes used as a generic term by “Madison types” do don’t venture any further than the beltway.

FYI – Jim

Thanks Jim, I love it when people correct misleading information, I do the best I can, and need help just as we all do.

I was wondering where this could have been, and erred in not pinning down the location. Would still like the plant in our area, and you might agree (Jim agrees).
